Ozone layer safe “for 100 years”

Further evidence that the chlorofluorocarbons 11 and 12 are a greater threat to the ozone layer in the stratosphere than any other chemical compound is cited in a report published by the Department of the Environment’s Central Unit on Environmental Pollution (CUEP). If the 1973 rate of CFCs 11 and 12 is continued, says the report, a maximum depletion of about 8 per cent in the ozone layer will occur in about 100 years’ time.
