Astronauts may soon wear goggles that simulate strobe lighting to avoid motion sickness. The goggles, designed by researchers at NASA’s Johnson Space Center and Wyle Laboratories in Houston, Texas, include LCD “shutters” that switch rapidly from clear to dark, providing four discrete images per second. This helps to minimise the disturbing mismatch between the information from the eyes and the balance information from the inner ears caused by the motion of the spacecraft.
