'Unrealistic expectations' to blame for home network problems

THE nightmares people experience when trying to network their homes are not the fault of the equipment makers. On the contrary, says Intel, it’s homeowners’ unrealistic expectations that are to blame.

It sounds arrogant, but Bill Schilit of Intel’s usability lab in Santa Clara, California, is adamant. He has found that people trying to network TVs, VoIP phones, PCs, Wi-Fi routers and MP3 hi-fi systems often expect systems from different firms to work seamlessly together. That, he says, is too much to expect. Now he tells us.
