Swell spacecraft inflates on cue

THE first-ever prototype of an orbiting hotel blew itself up in space on 12 July. Don’t worry though: the test version of the inflatable space hotel expanded and filled with air as planned.

Genesis I was launched by the Russian Dnepr rocket, a converted intercontinental ballistic missile, from Yasny, Russia. According to its makers, Bigelow Aerospace of Las Vegas, Nevada, the rocket “flawlessly delivered Genesis I into the target orbit”.
