All alone with my broken heart

“HE LEFT and my heart started breaking,” sang Dolly Parton. It appears she was spot on. People who live alone double their risk of serious heart disease, according to a study by Kirsten Nielsen and colleagues at Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark.

For two years the team studied over 138,000 people aged between 30 and 69 living in one area of Denmark. During this time, 646 were diagnosed with various types of heart disease known as acute coronary syndrome.
