Why not become superhuman?

THERE is something about human biological enhancement that makes many people come unglued. Some become intoxicated with the idea and see immortal supermen around the next corner. Others view the prospect that people might use biomedical advances not just to treat disease but to improve themselves as a threat to humanity itself. The dreams of the wildest fringe of enhancers are not of great concern: the laws of science will limit them. But the fears of the other side demand attention: they could lead to laws that prohibit useful technologies.
