Traffic phone-in spots jams

YOUR mobile phone could soon help ease traffic congestion. Cellphones constantly emit signals that allow the networks to keep track of them, and IntelliOne of Atlanta, Georgia, has now developed a system for detecting traffic foul-ups by monitoring these signals from cellphones in cars.

The system locates each phone twice per second, allowing it to detect how fast the phone is moving. By tracking groups of phone signals the system can tell where traffic is moving smoothly and where it is backed up.
