Students in developing countries are to get free electronic textbooks written using “wiki” technology that lets anyone add to or edit an online document. Rick Watson at the University of Georgia, Athens, has recruited a team of academics to produce and oversee texts for his Global Textbook Project. The project will use software similar to the kind behind the Wikipedia online encylopedia. As well as being freely available to view online, the textbooks can be downloaded for printing.
