Neutrinos in transit

The particle physics lab CERN in Geneva switched on a new neutrino beam on Monday, firing the particles through 730 kilometres of rock towards the Gran Sasso Laboratories near Rome, Italy. Researchers there will try to find out if the neutrinos are changing from the muon form to the tau form during their journey. The experiment will shed light on the mass of neutrinos.
