Human-cow hybrid mooted

Two groups of researchers in the UK have jointly applied for permission to fuse human cells with cow eggs emptied of their own nuclear DNA in a bid to create human embryonic stem cells. Stephen Minger’s group at King’s College London and Lyle Armstrong’s group at the North East England Stem Cell Institute in Newcastle upon Tyne aim to use cow eggs instead of scarce human eggs to generate stem cells.
