THE results of a massive study “based on a total of 29,217 person-years of experience” into the effect of a cholesterol-lowering diet on deaths from coronary heart disease have just been published in The Lancet (21 Oct, p 835). The Helsinki group responsible for the survey, conducted in two mental hospitals over a 12-year period, is regarded as among the best of the several teams involved in long-term investigations of the effect of diet on heart disease.
