Arthur McDonald forecasts the future

By Arthur Mcdonald

15 November 2006

I expect the most significant breakthrough to be the identification of the mysterious dark matter that appears to make up about 25 per cent of the mass of the universe.

Underground detectors are already seeking signals from nuclear recoils produced by collisions with dark-matter particles in our galaxy. Simultaneously, new particle accelerators will possibly produce dark-matter particles directly. The clear identification of these particles will add substantially to our understanding of the universe.
