University of Southern Queensland in Australia peppered a dummy head with ultraviolet sensors small enough to fit in the face’s nooks and crannies. Placing the head out in the sun at different times of day generated a map of UV exposure which confirmed what every parent knows: that the nose and cheeks get the heaviest dose.
