Why fat is a fertility issue

IMPROVING fertility in obese women may be a case of mind over matter.

Overweight women were thought to be less fertile because obesity disrupts menstrual cycles. To test this, Dionne Gesink Law at Montana State University and her colleagues monitored 7327 women who were trying to get pregnant. They found that, while the chances of an obese woman conceiving were lower than those of a woman with a normal body weight, most obese women had perfectly normal menstrual cycles (Human Reproduction, DOI: 10.1093/humrep/del400).
