As an argument over the evolutionary ancestry of Australian Aborigines is settled, it has emerged that the health care they receive lags 100 years behind white Australians.
A report presented to a World Health Organization meeting in Adelaide last week showed that Aboriginal health is on a par with that of Australia’s white population before the advent of penicillin. Aborigines still suffer from diseases long eradicated in developed nations, such as leprosy and tuberculosis.
