Review: The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2007 edited by Richard Preston and Tim Folger

By Amanda Gefter

17 October 2007

FOLGER’S series always offers a cornucopia of fascinating science and impressive journalism, and this year’s collection by Richard Preston is no exception. Most pieces focus more on scientists than on science and have less to do with solid facts than the tumultuous world of science-in-the-making. The result is a wealth of diverse research with a thoroughly human face. Jonah Lehrer and Robert Sapolsky shed new light on what it means to be human, while Bonnie J. Rough’s “Notes on the space we take” is a creative gem.
