Childhood lead exposure leads to crime

HERE’S another reason to ensure your home is lead-free. Exposure to the toxic element during development makes people more likely to get into trouble with the law as adults.

In the past, peeling paint, exhaust fumes and plumbing have contaminated the environment with lead, which is known to interfere with the formation of children’s nerve synapses and parts of the brain involved in arousal, emotion, judgement and inhibition. Epidemiological studies have also tentatively linked lead exposure to an increased likelihood that a person will commit crimes.
