GAS-GUZZLING Hummers and Cadillacs give the clear impression that General Motors and the rest of the US automobile industry couldn’t give a damn about climate change. By contrast, their Japanese rivals have innovated. They are pumping out fuel-efficient small cars, plus hybrids such as the Prius, like nobody’s business, and consumers are snapping them up.
