Enigma No. 1531

By Susan Denham

4 February 2009

The year in question

I have written down three 3-figure numbers which, overall, use no digit more than once. One of the numbers is a perfect square and the two other numbers are primes. Their total is 2009.

With a little logic it is possible to calculate the three numbers very quickly. What (in increasing order) are they?

WIN £15 will be awarded to the sender of the first correct answer opened on Wednesday 11 March. The Editor’s decision is final. Please send entries to Enigma 1531, Â鶹´«Ã½, Lacon House, 84 Theobald’s Road, London WC1X 8NS, or to enigma@newscientist.com…
