US court rules against legal immunity for Big Pharma

A VICTORY for patients. That’s how consumer advocates interpret a US Supreme Court decision that would have made it tougher to sue drug companies, had it gone the other way.

The case concerned Diana Levine, a Vermont-based musician who lost her hand after a botched injection of the anti-nausea drug in 2000. If the drug is injected into an artery instead of a vein, as it was in Levine’s case, it can cause gangrene.
