Elderly people in danger of going blind as a result of a common eye condition will receive an experimental treatment using human embryonic stem cells (hESCs). Advanced Cell Technology in Massachusetts has permission to treat dry age-related macular degeneration by injecting the eyes of 12 people with retinal cells made from hESCs.
