Google dips into your wallet – by radio

Last week, Google expanded its mobile empire with an Android app called Wallet. It enables users to pay for items with their phone simply by swiping it across a payment point, much as London commuters pay for travel with a card containing a radio tag. The app is currently only available on Google’s Nexus S handset, which has the required short-range (NFC) radio technology, but Google says it will work with future NFC-enabled handsets from the likes of Apple and RIM, which makes the BlackBerry.
