Signs of light dark matter show up in Munich

DARK matter is still a dark horse. Two new results only deepen the mystery surrounding the maddeningly elusive stuff.

This week the Topics in Astroparticle and Underground Physics conference in Munich, Germany, heard that the in Gran Sasso, Italy, detected about 20 signals between June 2009 and April this year that could be dark-matter particles. These particles are thought to create the gravity that holds spinning galaxies together, accounting for about 85 per cent of all matter in the universe.
