Google has joined Amazon in planning a drone-based delivery service, though whether Google’s will ultimately drop parcels on doorsteps or emergency supplies to earthquake victims is still uncertain. Google has designed its own four-propeller, fixed-wing drone that will save energy by using aerodynamic lift once airborne. The idea is to take “a huge chunk out of the friction involved in moving things around”, says Astro Teller, head of Google X, the research lab behind the plan, in Mountain View, California.

Glass app sees red on your behalf

A Google Glass app called Chroma swaps the colours that a colour-blind person cannot distinguish well with those they can, boosting their colour vision when they look at Glass’s real-time video stream.
