He has a masters degree in chemistry from the University of Sussex, and a PhD in organic chemistry from the Australian National University. James has worked as a science correspondent and features editor for Chemistry World, as a features editor for Âé¶¹´«Ã½, and as deputy editor of Cosmos magazine. Since 2016 he has been a freelance writer. His work has been published by Chemistry World, Nature and Âé¶¹´«Ã½, and has been featured regularly in the annual Best Australian Science Writing compilations.
