Thorsten Schumm is professor for Quantum Metrology at the TU Wien. His scientific career has led him to Berlin, Innsbruck Heidelberg, Paris, Toronto and Vienna, and collaborations with with Nobel laureates Anton Zeilinger and Alain Aspect. Originally trained as an optical physicist, he gradually moved into nuclear physics. He's currently working on transferring precision laser spectroscopy and quantum state manipulation from the electron shell into the atomic nucleus. Besides research, he enjoys music, cooking, archery, and recently discovered surfing with his son.
