Conquering conkers
Question: I was once advised by a friend that the way to strengthen a conker
before a conker fight is to bake it. From my childhood I remember being told
that the way to improve your conkers was to pickle them in vinegar. Which method
produces winning conkers and why?
Answer: The simplest and best way to harden conkers is to put them away in a
drawer until the following year. However, if they were not attached to a string
when new and soft they will have to be drilled.
