Question: How does putting a few drops of vinegar into water that is being
used for boiling eggs prevent the eggs cracking?

Answer: In response to your correspondent who previously answered this
question, we would like to point out that the main mineral component of
eggshells is actually calcium carbonate, rather than the calcium phosphate
(hydroxyapatite) that is found in teeth and bones. Calcium carbonate is also
found in various sea shells and snail shells.
