Question: The captain of an airliner always sits in the left-hand cockpit
seat with the co-pilot to the right. How did this universal practice arise and
does it serve any useful purpose other than fulfilling a convention?

Question: On a recent flight to Washington DC it struck me that I have always
boarded airliners from the left, never the right. How did this practice begin
