Why do we care so much about restoring lost sight and hearing, but give relatively little focus to restoring taste, smell and touch?

• It is only natural that we care most about the senses that are critical for our immediate survival. Arguably, sight is the most useful sense. It allows us to move at high speed through our environment, while avoiding hazards like low-hanging tree branches and cliff edges. It also allows us to notice problems and opportunities to find food, as well as greatly helping us to fend off predators.
