From John Harris
While reading Edward Archer’s article about the link between maternal inactivity and childhood obesity (28 February, p 32), I wondered if he and other researchers have considered the significance of the adenovirus AD 36. This was described in some detail in Â鶹´«Ã½ around six years ago (17 October 2009, p 47).
At that time, there appeared to be a strong correlation between infection and subsequent obesity. Comparing the presence of antibodies against AD 36 in obese children and their mothers – who may have been infected while pregnant – could supply further evidence for Archer’s theory.
