If governments step up support for renewable energy and other efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, 2024 could see total carbon emissions begin to fall

Planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions have been on the rise since the industrial revolution, and 2023 appears to have been no different. This year saw a more than 1 per cent increase in emissions from burning fossil fuels compared with 2022, according to the compiled by at the University of Exeter in the UK and his colleagues.

With their long tendrils, the rivers meander through the country?s lowland plains to join the Atlantic Ocean. On the way, they carry water, nutrients, but also sediments out from the land. This natural?color image captures the movement of the sediments as the rivers move east to west. The image was acquired on May 17, 2018, by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on Landsat 8.
